Statement from Governor Jan Brewer

Statement

Date: May 24, 2013
Location: Phoenix, AZ

"On Monday, Americans will salute the men and women who gave their last true measure of devotion on our nation's behalf. I ask that my fellow Arizonans join me in tribute and prayer as we reflect on their service.

"It was 238 years ago that heroic patriots first began fighting for our country's independence. Since then, countless servicemen and women have sacrificed for the flag, and more than one million have laid down their lives in its honor. On this solemn occasion, we recognize each generation of United States service members -- from those who first gave us liberty to those who have ensured its preservation.

"This Memorial Day, let us pay respect to our fallen military men and women. May we never forget their service. May we never take for granted the precious blessings we enjoy because of them. Also, please join me in praying for our men and women in uniform still serving our nation, and the military families who make a sacrifice of their own. I ask that God look over them and keep them safe while they serve in our nation's name.

"In commemoration of Memorial Day, I have ordered that all State flags be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until noon on Monday, May 27, 2013. I invite all Arizonans to join in this respectful tribute."
